Our fleet comprises of 36 - to 50 Ton Side Tipper Interlink combinations. The combinations are divided as follows:
* 25 cubic metres with an average payload of 38,5 metric ton
* 30 cubic metres side tipper interlink trailers with an average payload of 38 tons
* 34 cubic metres with an average payload of 37,5 tons
*45 cubic metres with an average payload of 36 tons
* 45 cubic metres with an average payload of 50 tons (smart trucking - PBS trailers)
This allows for the loading of bulk as well as break bulk loads throughout RSA and neighbouring countries.
We use the latest technology and improve consistently and constantly without neglecting safety.
Apart from our own fleet, we also have affiliated fleets, comprised of the same configurations as SAF Group's.
These vehicles are managed and operated by the SAF logistics team and is an extension of our own fleet through joint ventures and contract agreements. All affiliated fleets are subject to the same standards as the SAF Group fleet.
This system allows us to take on major contracts through the use of dedicated contractors whilst still maintaining full control of the affiliated vehicles.
All Sub-contractors are screened and approved to ensure they meet the standards as required by us and our clients. These sub-contractors are then allowed to render services on contracts managed by us.
Our network approach through our three segments gives our company access to a huge number of truck tractor units which allows us to deliver the best possible service to our clients.
Our main maintenance depot is based in Heidelberg (Gauteng), from where all planning and co-ordination is done regarding the maintenance of our vehicles.
All truck tractors are serviced and maintained by the OEM to ensure the highest standard of effectiveness and reliability.
We also have satellite maintenance depots in Rustenburg, Durban, Richard's Bay and Maputo.
We manage strict preventative maintenance schedules and procedures to ensure maximum vehicle productivity and availability and to minimise downtime due to on-road breakdowns.
RTMS is an industry-led, voluntary self-regulation scheme that encourages consignees, consignors and transport operators engaged in the road logistics value chain to implement a management system (a set of standards - SANS 10399:2012) with outcomes that contribute to preserving road infrastructure, improving road safety & increasing productivity.
This scheme also supports the Department of Transport’s National Freight Logistics Strategy.
Users of road haulage (consignors and consignees) and providers of road haulage (hauliers) have jointly developed strategies aimed at protecting the road network, improving road safety and transport productivity for the benefit of the country’s citizens and the industry itself.
The industry also recognises that poor compliance to transport regulations creates an unfair competitive environment. It is, therefore, felt that a self-regulation scheme is required to create standard rules for the industry and that these rules should become the “business norm” – supporting principles of good corporate governance. It is for this reason that industry is leading this initiative, to ensure its quick adoption by all businesses participating in the road logistics value chain.
Furthermore, industry recognises its critical role in the economy’s growth. Efficient movement of goods between a country’s centres of production and its shipping ports boosts competitiveness in international markets. RTMS is one of the innovative and pro-active initiatives that will make this possible.
On-going accreditation is subject to the successful completion of annual surveillance audits, which is why it's imperative that an operator implements RTMS in a sustainable manner. This also ensured the commitment of operators to continually achieve the objectives of improved road safety, the reduction of road crashes, optimised payload efficiency, maintenance of roadworthy vehicles and improved driver wellness and training.
RTMS certified operators have dedicated plans in place to focus on any areas of concern which will ensure continual improvements and enable them to maintain the highest standards in the industry for continued compliance.
All our vehicles are comprehensively insured and have Goods in Transit insurance of R500k as standard. Should any customer require higher GIT cover, we adjust this value accordingly.
In order to monitor security and production, we make use of state of the art technology, tools and support that enable our fleet to be flexible and dynamic to accommodate our customers’ requirements and fleet profitably.
We make use of Pointer Satellite Tracking due to their holistic approach to Fleet management services that addresses every aspect of managing our fleet, ensuring that safety is a priority, efficiency is embedded, and vehicle -, driver - and cargo security is enhanced. Pointer is designed as a solution that is tailor-made to exponentially increase the benefits derived through continuous improvement and maximum technology utilisation.
Our vehicles are monitored 24/7 by either our own personnel or a third party vehicle monitoring company, who has certain protocols in place to ensure that the vehicles and loads are safe during transit or stopovers. All our own vehicles are equipped with camera systems covering almost every part of the vehicle. This helps in resolving any incidents that may occur on the road allowing us to manage costs and avoid costly downtime.
All this is done in our attempt to eliminate any theft and/or illegal activities.
Providing us with increased visibility into our operations and actionable insights, allowing us to continually improve.
Informing us on drivers’ poor driving patterns and alerting us to non-compliant hours of service.
Increasing visibility of our - and your assets to mitigate the potential for robbery and theft, while providing us with the tools we need to effectively recover those stolen goods.
Identifying vulnerabilities in our operations and providing tools to eliminate them and the fraud.
All drivers are carefully screened and tested, ensuring that we employ the best only.
SAF professional drivers are trained to follow road laws, to be courteous to other road users and set a good example on the road.
From application to truck, a driver needs to complete a literacy test, practical driving test, criminal checks as well as a driver efficiency test to ensure that all criteria are met prior to us entrusting the driver with our vehicles and our clients' cargo.
Although we specialise in transport within the borders of RSA, we do offer road freight services to neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique.
